Preparing for your check-up: the 7 things that matter most
Arrive fasting, bring a medication list, get enough sleep. What to do so your check-up yields meaningful results.
1. Arrive fasting
Nothing to eat for at least 8 hours. Still water is allowed.
2. Medication list
Bring a complete list of your medications, including supplements, even occasional ones.
3. Sleep and stress
One night of less than 6 hours distorts cortisol, blood pressure and fasting glucose.
4. Avoid exercise
No intense training in the 24 hours before, muscle enzymes get elevated.
5. Skip alcohol
48 hours without alcohol makes liver values meaningful.
6. Write down your questions
The best part of a check-up is the consultation. Come in with a list.
7. ID and insurance card
Obvious, yet a surprising number of people forget.
