Health check-up: how often you really should go
Every two years? Yearly? What Swiss doctors recommend, and why your age decides.
The short answer
In Switzerland, the following guidelines apply:
- Under 40: a comprehensive check-up every 3–5 years.
- 40–59: every 2–3 years.
- 60+: yearly, plus targeted screenings.
Why age matters
Cardiovascular risk, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers don't increase linearly. Around 45, a phase begins where values creep: blood pressure, cholesterol, fasting glucose.
What a good check-up includes
- Blood panel and fasting glucose
- Cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL, triglycerides)
- Blood pressure and resting ECG
- BMI and body composition
- Consultation
Check whether your supplementary insurance partially covers the cost before booking.
