Health check-up: how often you really should go

Every two years? Yearly? What Swiss doctors recommend, and why your age decides.

The short answer

In Switzerland, the following guidelines apply:

  • Under 40: a comprehensive check-up every 3–5 years.
  • 40–59: every 2–3 years.
  • 60+: yearly, plus targeted screenings.

Why age matters

Cardiovascular risk, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers don't increase linearly. Around 45, a phase begins where values creep: blood pressure, cholesterol, fasting glucose.

What a good check-up includes

  1. Blood panel and fasting glucose
  2. Cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL, triglycerides)
  3. Blood pressure and resting ECG
  4. BMI and body composition
  5. Consultation

Check whether your supplementary insurance partially covers the cost before booking.
